IRS Acceptance Agent in Peachtree Corners, Atlanta, Roswell, Duluth, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Norcross, GA, and the Surrounding Areas
At Amgd K. Ibraheem, CPA, we are an Acceptance Agent for individuals who do not qualify for a Social Security Number. Some people, such as foreign national individuals, still need to file certain tax forms such as the traditional IRS form 1040. In order to fill tax forms, an individual must apply for a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). A TIN is obtained by filling out the necessary W-7 Forms and sending to the IRS. The Acceptance Agent will review the necessary documents and assist in fulfilling the proper paperwork.
Having an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) does not change one’s immigration status for working in the U.S. or entitle one to Social Security benefits. This is for paying taxes owed or claiming an exception.
How to know if you require an ITIN
Basically, if you don’t have a social security number or qualify for one, you’ll need to get an ITIN. Examples include a dependent or spouse of US Citizen/resident alien, a nonresident alien required to file a tax return, any nonresident student/professor/researcher either filing a return or claiming an exception.
What is an IRS Acceptance Agent?
An Acceptance Agent is a person or an entity (business or organization) who, pursuant to a written agreement with the IRS, is authorized to assist individuals and other foreign persons who do not qualify for a Social Security Number but who still need a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) to process a Form 1040 and other tax schedules. The Acceptance Agent facilitates the application process by reviewing the necessary documents and forwarding completed Forms W-7 to IRS.
Benefits of using an IRS Acceptance Agent
The main benefit of using an IRS Acceptance Agent is getting the professional experience of a trained professional when filling out paperwork that might be confusing. Acceptance Agents are training in completing the right forms and which supporting paperwork to include.
Your original documents are essential to your status and may be difficult, if not impossible, to replace. An IRS Acceptance Agent knows which documents need to be sent as well as what type of copies are permitted.
